|KT120/KT88 high powered monoblocks.|
The Tempest Duo uses valve rectifiers in it's power supply to offer the user a true all valve experience. The power supply of the Tempest Duo uses a massively over sized power transformer rated at 600VA, and also a separate power transformer for heater filaments. It uses dual rectifiers, hand wound filter choke, and German made F&T filter capacitors. What this means is the amplifiers operates whisper quiet and there is never a shortage of power available for those times when no-one is about.
The Tempest Duo shares the same basic chassis as the stereo Tempest with the right hand chassis mirrored to give a balanced look. The output transformers on the Tempest Duo are wound on massive cores with a newly developed winding technique to give a very flat response and balanced current draw. The output transformers on the Tempest Duo are wound with focus on the bass and midrange regions.
The Tempest Duo can be biased to run KT77, KT88, KT90, KT120, 6550, EL34, 6CA7 output valves.
The bias on the Tempest Duo is easily set by the owner. Above chassis adjustment point and build in LCD meter make it a 1 minute task. Once set, it only needs to be checked every 4 to 8 weeks to keep the Tempest Duo running at their best. $6995.00 on Tasmanian Oak Chassis.

Power Output - 120 watts per channel
Frequency response -3db - 6hz to >100khz
Signal to Noise - >88db A Weighted
Signal to Hum - > 80db
Distortion - <0.05% at 1 watt rms
Hum Level - <2.0 millivolt
Sensitivity - 1000mV
Input impedance - 100K
Speaker output 8 ohm (6 to 10 ohm is fine)
Damping Factor >10 (20hz to 20khz 8 ohm)
Weight ~50kg (~110lb)
Now using my newly developed modified Pi wound output transformers for fully balanced DC resistance, AC impedance, and low distortion.
The new output transformers now measure 20hz to 20khz +/-0.1db.
What this means to you is the output tansformers are not a limiting factor so no design compromises are needed to compensate.
Below is the Tempest Duo pictured with matching Touchstone pre-amplifier built on Birdseye Maples chassis.
Purchased as a single order price is $8990.00 on standard Tasmanian Oak Chassis.
